The joy of June
It’s been warm and sunny for a couple of weeks now, so I’m already in Summer mode and enjoying all the lightness, brightness and excitement that come with it. May was busy, eventful and joyful; as I fully embraced the abundance mindset we discussed in class, I started seeing magic everywhere… Highlights of the month included the 2 retreats I did for Namastrip, in Arrabida and in Ericeira, watching new flowers bloom everywhere, the visits of a few jardins abertos in Lisbon, and 2 special events that inspired me our theme for this month.

A FEW THINGS I ENJOYED LATELY
What brought me joy lately: an evening of Kirtan at Baraza, a yoga studio in Santos. They host those monthly, and I decided to go more often. Kirtans are community gatherings where we sing mantras in call-in response. It may sound a bit weird or woo-woo, but it’s a very powerful way to connect with others and with ourselves. Through melodies, united voices and the repetition of mantras, we go through all kinds of emotions. During this one, I felt immense joy and gratitude.
Also brought me joy: the visit of Joana Vasconcelos’ atelier, organized by Wodo, a wonderful community of local women who gather about once a month for great events on various topics. Joana Vasconcelos is the most famous living Portuguese female artist; the scale of her work is unique and often gigantic.
Her atelier employs more than 60 people full time and she has shows and commissions all over the world. It was great to see how the colors, the textures and the richness of her pieces all come to life through the fabrics, the pearls and the glitter…
Joana’s talk at the end of the event was also very interesting, on the challenges she faced in the art world, “I did not fit into any box and opportunities did not come so easily. After all, who cares about a woman, and from Portugal ? ”
Even though she has a reputation for being tough and very business-oriented, I found her story, one of resilience and continued hard work, to be very inspiring.
And a quote, why not : “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” – Henry David Thoreau.
When we are present and grateful for all the small moments, for the mundane things of the everyday, we start feeling rich. I’ve never in my life made so little money, yet felt so fulfilled in so many ways.
SPECIAL EVENT
The Summer Solstice is a very special time of the year: it’s when the days last the longest, when the sun stays up the latest and when summer energies are at their highest. It’s all about new beginnings, growth, abundance and expansion.
To celebrate this special time of the year, I’m organizing a very special event in a very special place. If you’ve never been to a sound bath session, this is your chance to try it out and experience ultimate relaxation and bliss.
The evening will start with a relaxation and breathing session that I will be guiding, and then Gonçalo Roquette, the best sound healer in town, will be playing his bowls and gongs while you lie down and take in all the vibrations of the instruments.
The location is the convent at Casa do Impacto, the last event I did over there was truly magical. The price per person includes a Gecko mat rental and soft drinks for a community apéro on the terrace after the session.
