Candy & Gratitude

I hope you had too much candy last night and more importantly that you enjoyed some of the Halloween magic ! I personally love this holiday, the decor, the vibe, the spookiness, the pumpkins, watching all the costumes and of course the candy, one of my guilty pleasures… Halloween takes me right back to festive times and Fall in the US, and I enjoy it even more as a parent. My kids are both old enough now to understand and appreciate the concept and I’m going full in while they’re still into it - they may or may not notice that I steal candy from their cauldrons…

During the mid-term break, we discovered the beautiful island of Madeira and what a gem it is ! The landscapes are raw, the cliffs are dramatic, the weather is unpredictable, and in many ways it is a little European Kauai. I’ll share more about it and my favorite spots on my Instagram page later this week.

2 things I loved in October :

  • All Fours, a novel by Miranda July. A story about a midlife woman looking for herself ahead of her “second mountain” and experimenting with what she actually likes and who she really is. This book has become very popular for several reasons: it’s funny, well-written, modern and, in my opinion, an essential read for millennial women.

  • This episode of podcast where Rick Rubin opens up about his routine, creative process & protocols. It’s from 2023 but still very timely. I still don’t know if I like Huberman but this is a great conversation with lots of ideas and tools to take away. I’m a bit obsessed with Rick Rubin - if you don’t know who he is, probably the most important music producer of the last 20 years and one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. He is also the author of the great book “The creative act”.

Spring retreat

Save the date ! My next Alentejo retreat at the unique Monte das Casolas will happen on May 28-31, 2026.

A long weekend of wellness, yoga, meditation, writing, but also of excellent and healthy food - nourishment on all levels, rejuvenation and time for yourself. Message me to save your spot.

Every month I publish a personal essay about the ups and downs of family life abroad and living an embodied life. If you liked reading blogs, you might enjoy this. I write in English and in French.

The last article was about peeling the different layers of an onion myself (NB: not a cooking recipe !)
